The dictionary for the English to Pirate Translator is growing and being refined quickly. I would love to see any suggestions you think of, whether they are translations it doesn't currently do or translations it currently does but does not do well. Ok. Maybe i don't want to see just any suggestions.
English - It must be English. This doesn't support foreign languages mainly because I don't know any foreign languages well enough to translate them. If you are an expert with Regular Expressions and are fluent in Pirate and a foreign language, I'll be happy to let you build your own dictionary.
Spelling - If you don't think it has translated something properly, first check that the English part of it was spelled correctly. I don't mind translating common misspellings, but I'm not going to get into automatic spell checking just to do a translation.
Accuracy (or lack thereof) - I'm not really going for a historically accurate translation. I removed the translation to 'titivate' for just such a reason. When it comes down to it, the translations really just need to have a pirate-y feel.
Context - Many translations rely on the context of the sentence. I can't just replace 'left' with 'port', because 'left' can be a verb, but I can replace 'the left' with 'port' or 'turn left' with 'turn to port'.
Random Replacement - There are some pirate words or phrases that are equally applicable in a situation. For instance, 'What's up' gets replaced with a random assortment of 'Arr', 'Argh', 'Arrgh', 'Yarr', or 'Harr'.
Finally, don't be a yellow-bellied cur. Put your email address in. I'm not going to send you spam or anything else besides a question about what you are telling me.
